Electrical water damage ..Attention Hurricane Sandy flood victims!

Question: can I just let my wiring dry and will it be safe?

Based on my knowledge of the field - and the first hand damages I've seen water do in other building types......I'd certainly go with the group of electricians that recommend replacement of ALL wiring that was exposed to the water/salt. Simply pulling the wires out of the boxes and letting them dry....will help some...but - it does not stop the chemical reaction that has already started...even if you can't see it.  Cont.reading

Outlets :Check for outlets that have loose-fitting plugs, which can overheat and lead to fire. Replace any missing or broken wall plates. Make sure there are safety covers on all unused outlets that are accessible to children.
